Camping Reviewed – An Exciting Story about Wanderlust, Starry Skies, and Two Crashing Eggs

If you’ve wandered to our page, chances are that you’re well aware of the enchanting pull of nature. Morning dew-soaked green grass, shimmering mountain tops, babbling brooks rushing through thick, magical forests – these are just a fraction of the magnificence Mother Earth has bestowed upon us all and charged us with guarding and protecting.

Personally, I’m fascinated with stars – for me, there is nothing more mesmerizing than gazing into the starry night, imagining wonders; imagining ancient humans staring into those same little celestial specs, thinking about possibilities or simply admiring their beauty. I also find comfort in the fact that they will be there long after we’re all gone, firm and unrelenting in their longevity.

Look at me, getting all philosophical on you.

Anyway, my name is Tom and I’m an outdoor enthusiast. This site is the place where I’ll be sharing camping tips and tricks, my favorite camping destinations, hiking adventures, and, of course, camping gear reviews with all of you.

I’m an outdoorsy guy and camping has been a release valve of mine for a couple of years now. Unfortunately, I never had an opportunity to share my experiences online with other campers. I was always too busy, too distracted, or, quite frankly, too lazy to sit down and write.

That all changed a couple of months ago while I was on a camping trip in Iceland. First thing’s first, if you’ve never been, make sure to add it that place to your bucket list – it’s beautiful. You’re constantly tripping over waterfalls and you get an opportunity to wander around in one of the most amazing, and diverse, places in the world. Also, that nightscape is something to die for!

But I digress.

Iceland was a wonderful experience, but not without its difficulties. I’ll skip the part where I tell you it’s rugged and unyielding – I knew what I was getting myself into. However, there were some nasty surprises on the way that had nothing to do with harsh weather.

We bought half of our gear for the trip relying on internet reviews from who we thought was a reliable reviewer. Turns out; the guy wasn’t reliable at all! At the end of the trip we had to trash one tent, two sleeping bags, two pairs of (brand new, but leaky) boots, and a portable gas stove.

The gas stove was the third strike for me. You see, I’m a hard-boiled eggs kind of a guy. If I don’t eat my two eggs in the morning my day is shot. Last day – last two eggs in my backpack. I turn on the stove, plop my eggs in the water (free range chicken eggs to boot!) and go inside my tent to get the rest of my breakfast.

BOOM!

The stove blew up, catapulting the pan 25 feet up, eggs slowly spinning through the air as they came crashing down on the rocks. I was heartbroken. I know I should count my blessings that I wasn’t hurt but, trust me, I’ll never get that image of dancing eggs out of my mind.

That really pushed me over the edge. I was pissed. I decided I would make the time to review quality camping gear and share my reviews with the world. I feel an obligation. I don’t want anyone else’s eggs suffering the same fate.

So here we are! Camping Reviewed is a collaborative effort that came about because my eggs got scrambled one day. I’m the name behind the project but various people are contributing on a regular basis. Stay tuned for some helpful tips and tricks and honest to God genuine reviews based on either personal experience  or a ton of research.

Have a great day and take care of your eggs!
